Domain Discussion...

As is often the case with technology-driven web spaces, we see a battle among the top domains between media covering the space, aggregators trying to consolidate and organize the space, as well as Original Equipment Manufacturers and firms that are OEM-independent problem-solvers.

This is certainly the case with the power conversion equipment space, where technology continues to evovle rapidly, and flexibility of solutions and time-to-market drive constant change and competition in the industry. Vicor leads the pack, as Massachusetts-based equipment maker selling a wide range of solutions and architectures, in the factorized power arena and other sub-spaces.

Top site www.vicr.com is the home of Vicor, a manufacturer of power converters, whose web-site is managed by search engine optimizers and marketing mavens, RDVO, Inc. Meanwhile, Silcon Valley-based energy.sourceguides.com, a content aggregator with a slew of directories in the electronics and other spaces, popped up -- not with its Power or Electronic directory, but with a Renewable Energy guide. Go figure. Publishers of Electronic Design and Power Design mags, also rounded out the Top Five. Staying competitive is a full-time job, apparently, and that means knowing about the latest and greatest. Current Solutions custom fits solutions for Southeastern U.S. industry and commerce, connects its clients with any number of OEMs.

Tyco Electronics, a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania-based subsidiary of much-scrutinized Tyco International, Ltd., a Bermuda concern with headquarters in Portsmouth, NH and Princeton, NJ, just made the Top Ten, and their slick page shows the range of finished electronics products, from computer-room components to telecom and power converters. Watch Out!

URL Discussion...

It's not too surprising to see Numero Uno Domain, Vicor, occupy three separate spots in the Top Twenty of the URLs list (#1, 16, 18). Vicor's sported 1,019 occurences, almost twice as much as #2 Domain holder, Current Solutions.

Naturally, several firms who didn't make the Top Ten Domain list, showed up in the URL list. Among them, directory Interfacebus.com, and Tacoma, Washington-based Hotek Techologies, which sells in the marine, avionics and custom segments, among others.

One thing still holds true; there are a lot of ways to measure penetration, and to optimize business-to-business sites in the industrial technologies space, and power conversion makers like Vicor seem to have mastered quite a number of those ways.
